New Delhi: Ministry of Human Resource Development has been renamed as Ministry of Education, with an idea to give clearer definition to the ministry’s work.
The Union cabinet approved the long-awaited new National Education Policy (NEP), on Wednesday, with which the renaming of the ministry too has taken place.
Union Minister Prakash Javdekar and HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank will be holding a press conference at 4 pm today.
The Union Cabinet has approved the change in the name of the ministry. The HRD Ministry is currently headed by Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.
Meanwhile, the Union Cabinet has approved the draft New Education Policy (NEP 2020), which aims to revamp all aspects of Indian education structure. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence.
The new NEP, which is based on the draft prepared by a committee headed by former ISRO Chief K Kasturirangan will replace the existing policy which was first formulated in 1986 and last modified in 1992.
