Hathra rape case: FSL report saying ‘no rape’ sparks debate

hathras M 3092020Lucknow: A forensic report of the Hathras rape victim, which has surfaced on the social networking sites says that there were no signs suggestive of intercourse.

The report of the FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) in Agra says the samples did not contain sperm and  this report backs the UP state police’s version that the 19-year-old Dalit girl was not raped.

However, the report has sparked a debate as experts say that the samples were collected 11 days after the assault and hence the sperm presence in the sample is not possible. Her samples were collected on September 22 at a hospital in Aligarh and were sent to FSL, Agra three days later.

The Uttar Pradesh police had claimed last Thursday that the forensic report of the 19-year-old woman’s viscera had established that she was not raped or gang raped and instead she had died due to her neck injury.

“The FSL report hasn’t found sperm in samples, making it clear that some people twisted the matter to stir caste-based tension. Such people will be identified and legal action will be taken,” Prashant Kumar, a senior UP police officer, had said.

The woman had been assaulted by four men from her village on September 14 and she was found by her family in the fields, allegedly naked, with severe injuries and tongue slit.

The UP government and the police faced huge criticism after the death of the victim last Tuesday and also for forecefully conducting the cremation of the victim, keeping the family members at bay.
