Mumbai: A high-rise building in the posh Prabha Devi area of south Mumbai, caught fire this afternoon. Popular Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is said to be one of the residents of the building.
So far, no casualties have been reported in the incident. The building, Beaumonde Towers is said to house upwards of 90 residents, who were evacuated safely out of the blazing structure, police sources said.
Reportedly, the fire started on the 33rd floor at around 2 pm. The cause of the fire hasn’t been ascertained as of yet.
Staff from the police and fire departments are currently at the spot and are trying to douse the fire, Mumbai police said in a tweet. It is reported that around 10 fire engines, two quick response vans and five water tankers are also at the scene.
Padukone, one of the residents of the 34-storey building, resides on one of the floors of the building while also having her office on another floor. She was not in the building at the time the fire broke out. Both her office and residence were undamaged in the incident.
The actress tweeted to her fans: “I am safe.Thank You everyone.Let us pray for our firefighters who are at site risking their lives…”
