Srinagar: Authorities in Srinagar have imposed curfew-like restrictions to avoid protests against the killing of militant commander Zakir Musa in a gunfight with government forces on Thursday night in Dadsara village of Tral. Musa was the so-called head of the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.

Reports said that besides a huge deployment of police and paramilitary forces, barricades have also been erected at various points in the city. All educational institutes have also been closed by the authorities today as a “precautionary measure” following Thursday’s incident. Sources said that even the internet was shutdown.

On Thursday late evening, widespread protests were witnessed in Shopian, Pulwama, Awantipora, downtown Srinagar and other parts of the valley, soon after the news spread about Musa’s death. People raised slogans in favour of the slain militant.

A large number of state police and security force personnel, wearing bullet-proof jackets, leg-guards and holding automatic weapons guarded deserted streets. Similar restrictions have also been imposed in almost all major towns and tehsil headquarters in the Valley.
