Mumbai: Mehul Choksi, the fugitive jeweller who is wanted in connection with the $2 billion PNB fraud, may return to India in three months’ time if his “condition” improved, according to his lawyer, Sanjay Abbot.
Choksi had left for the US for medical treatment back in January.
On Saturday, November 17, Choksi told a Mumbai court, through his lawyer, that he was not in a condition to provide his statement in the case.
The lawyer was later quoted by ANI as saying that there were three options with the investigators. Either conduct the investigation via video conferencing, send an officer to Antigua to investigate Choksi or wait for three months for his condition to improve, return to India record his statement.
Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi, who is also involved in the fraud, have been absconding since the case was registered by the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
