Kutch: High security measures have been put in place because Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Gujarat’s Kutch district for an all-India conference of top police officials from December 18 to 20.

A bulletproof tent, called The Darbar, has been set up for PM Modi in Dhordo, where the conference is being held.

With the PM remaining so close to the Pakistan border for two days, anti-aircraft guns have been placed around Dhordo and the area has also been declared as no-flying zone.

After inaugurating the Director General of Police’s conference on December 18, PM Modi visited the white Rann of Kutch to get a view of the sunset.
All officers attending the conference have been directed to watch either the sunrise or the sunset by the Intelligence Bureau, which has organised the meet.

For the first time, PM Modi will be spending over 48 hours with all police personnel and a detailed programme has been chalked out. Each Director General of Police (DGP) has been asked to make a presentation to the PM about the issues that concern their state.

Some of the key topics which will be discussed at the meeting are radicalisation of the youth, perceived ‘intolerance’, cyber security, threat from ISIS and the role of social media.

Barring DGPs from Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir who have cited law and order problems in their respective states, top cops from all states will be attending the conference.

This is Narendra Modi’s ninth visit to Kutch, although the first after he took over as the PM. The Rann of Kutch festival was started by PM Modi, then chief minister of Gujarat in 2003, and now is famous worldwide. An estimated eight lakh tourists will visit the festival this year.
