New Delhi: In a massive twist to the “Bois Locker Room” controversy, a preliminary investigation by the Delhi Cyber Cell has revealed that the screenshots of a chat that had gone viral was not part of the alleged group chat at all.
It is said that the Snapchat chat between two boys where they are seen talking about “gang-raping” a minor girl, was actually a conversation between a fake account and just one other participant.
What is all the more shocking is that the fake account-Siddharth in question was opened by a minor girl, who wanted to find out more about the boy’s character.
The boy in the conversation had refused to participate in the sexual assault and stopped replying as well.
DCP (cyber cell) Anyesh Roy told TOI: “There were many screenshots which went viral and among them was a screenshot of a one-to-one snapchat conversation, where a person identified as ‘Sidharth’ is suggesting a plan of aggravated sexual assault of a girl to the other boy. The alleged conversation was actually between a girl who had created a fake account in the name of ‘Sidharth’ and sent the messages to the boy, she suggested a plan to sexually assault herself.”
The DCP said that the girl was examined by police and she that she sent the messages to check the reaction of the boy and the “strength of his character”.
The boy subsequently shared the screenshot of the Snapchat conversation with his friends, including the girl who had spoken to him using the fake account.
“Later on, someone posted the screenshot on their Instagram story and it went viral,” said Roy.
As of May 10, one minor boy and a college student (older than 18) have been arrested in connection with the case.
