New Delhi: BJP activist Priyanka Sharma has finally walked free on Wednesday after being jailed for five days for posting a meme on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee last week.

The Supreme Court, on Tuesday ordered her release, but she had to spend another night in jail. Sharma has now said that the question of tendering an apology does not arise at all as she has done no wrong.

“I was tortured in jail. They were very rude inside the jail and the general condition inside was also quite bad. They didn’t let me speak to anyone despite getting bail, didn’t let me speak to anyone for five days,” Ms Sharma, accompanied by her brother is quoted in NDTV. She also spoke about lack of hygiene and the need to start Swachh Bharat campaign inside the jail.

She said she is preparing to fight a court battle in July, when the Supreme Court will hear whether she should agree with the West Bengal government’s demand that she apologise for sharing the meme.

She said that fundamental rights are under danger, citing example of the violence that broke out during Amit Shah’s rally in West Bengal on Tuesday.

Sharma was picked up by the police from her home, last Friday and was sent to two week’s judicial custody for posting “defamation and offensive messages”on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
