Thiruvananthapuram: All three persons, who were confirmed to have contracted the deadly novel coronavirus (Covid-19), have fully recovered. This comes as a major win for Kerala as they have not only managed to contain the illness but have also managed to reduce the number of people in quarantine.

In a tweet on Friday, February 14, Finance Minister of Kerala Thomas Isaac confirmed the same, writing, “Just as in the case of Nipah, Kerala has won battle with Corona Virus. All the 3 patients identified have been confirmed by Central authorities to have fully recovered. [sic]”

Congratulating the state health department, he added that there were no cases of “secondary spread” and that the number of people under quarantine observation is “drastically coming down”.

The three people who were diagnosed with the coronavirus were medical students in China’s Wuhan (the epicentre of the outbreak) and had been receiving treatment in the quarantine wards of health Department ever since they returned to Kerala.

On Thursday, February 13, the Kerala government had declared that the first two coronavirus patients (from Thrissur and Alappuzha), had fully recovered, the latter having been discharged from the hospital.

Although the third patient, a student from the Kasaragod district, has tested negative for the coronavirus, they continue to be under observation.

When the first case of coronavirus was reported in the state, the health department immediately jumped into action and quarantined the affected people. They also imposed home quarantine restrictions on those suspected to have contracted the deadly virus, so that they wouldn’t be able to further spread the disease that has already killed over 1,000 people worldwide.

According to the latest update, 1,062 people have been relieved from home quarantine, while 2,397 are under surveillance. Of the 2,397 people, 2,375 are under home quarantine and 22 are isolated in hospitals.
