Udupi: District Panchayat President Dinakar Babu has said that training on construction of road using accumulated plastic in the district will be conducted on December 10.
He was addressing the monthly KDP meeting at the District Panchayat Hall on Friday, December 6.
He said that a team from Madhurai will be in Udupi to show how road construction using plastic waste can be possible.
Officers of the Department of Public Works, Panchayat Raj Engineering Department, various departments undertaking road works and all the representatives of the District Panchayat will participate in the training, said Dinakar Babu.
He said that improper drainage in Ambalpady Gram Panchayat has led to contamination of at least 150 wells of 400 houses in Ambalpady and Kadekaru areas.
The Department of Public Works informed officials that 119 bridges under the school bridge project have been completed, 117 are in progress, tenders for 97 bridges have been called for and 83 are in the sanction stage. Responding to this, the President suggested that the toilet work in the school buildings be completed within the stipulated period.
District Panchayat Vice President Sheela K Shetty, Agriculture and Industrial Standing Committee Chairman Sumit Shetty, Education and Health Standing Committee President Pratap Hegde and Social Justice Standing Committee President Shobha.G. Puthan, Chief Executive Officer Preethi Gehlot, Deputy Secretary Kiran Fadnaker and Project Director Gurudat were also present.
