Udupi RTO R M Varnekar caught red-handed by ACB while receiving bribe

Udupi: Regional Transport Officer (RTO) and Udupi Deputy Transport Commissioner R M Varnekar was caught red handed while receiving bribe by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Bengaluru, in his Manipal Office on Saturday, March 16.

According to sources, it is said that recently a new car which belongs to Vignesh was burned down at Bengaluru in a major fire incident during Aero India 2019. Vignesh paid tax of about Rs 65,000 for the vehicle and had applied for the relevant documents from the district transport office. However, R M Varnekar, had allegedly demanded bribe to issue the required documents. It is said that Varnekar had demanded atleast 10% of the tax money, that is Rs 6,500 as a bribe from Vignesh to clear the documents.

Vignesh filed a complaint against Varnekar with the Bengaluru ACB. The ACB officials caught Varnekar red handed while receiving the bribe and arrested him. Another contract based employee of the RTO named Munaf who is also invloved in taking the bribe has also been arrested.

ACB DySP Manjunath, PSI Jayarama Gowda, Yogish, Sathish and other were present during the operation at the Regional Transport Office.
