Udupi: Sri Krishna Janmashtami would be celebrated here on August 23 and Leelaotsava (Vittla Pindi) will be celebrated on August 24.
Addressing media persons at Sri Krishna Math hall, Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha Swami of Payaya Palimar Mutt, on Wednesday, July 31, said Sri Krishna Mutt was making all preparations for the forthcoming Sri Krishna Janmashtami and Vittla Pindi celebrations.
Special prayers would be held at 12.12am on August 23 followed by Tulasi puja, bhajan etc. On August 24, as per the customs, Vittla Pindi Leelaotsava would be held and on this day, prayers will be conducted and annaprasada will be distributed. From 3 pm, Leelatosava will be held at Rathabeedi. From 4 pm onwards, all veshadaries will be honoured at Rajangana.
On account of Janmashtami various competitions such as essay writing, drawing, recitation of Bhagavad Gita, quiz, rangoli, huli vesha, blowing the conch, Krishna vesha, churning butter, singing devotional songs and folk will be held.. The seer said that various cultural programmes will be held daily in the evening from August 18 to 25, at Rajangana here. The programmes scheduled are Sarvam Krishnamayam on August 18, Hindustani classical and devotional songs by Faiyaz Khan and Party on August 19, Carnatic classical concert by T V Shankar Narayan and Party from Chennai on August 20, Violin duet by K J Dileep and Sangeetha Dileep and party from Chennai on August 21, Hindustani devotional songs by Muddu Mohan and party on August 22, Carnatic and Hindustani flute jugalbandhi by Rajkamal Nagaran and Sameer Rao on August 23 and Laya Lahari Talavadya ensemble by H L Shivashankar Swami and party on August 25.
