Udupi: A BJP councillor from the Vadabhandeshwara ward of the Udupi City Municipal Council allegedly assaulted an on-duty assistant health officer here on Tuesday, July 16.
Allegedly, it all started on July 15, when Yogish V Salian, the BJP councillor had a heated argument over the phone with Prasanna Kumar, an assistant health officer at the Udupi City Municipality, regarding the issue of dumping of stones on the roadside.
Salian, who arrived at the City Municipal office on Tuesday, July 16 morning, once again got into a heated argument with Kumar following which, he allegedly proceeded to assault the on-duty officer.
After the alleged assault, Kumar was admitted to the Government Hospital in Ajjarkad of the city, and the employees of the municipal council protested against the councillor in front of the municipal office.
A case has been registered with the Udupi Town Police Station in this regard.
