Three suspected 2019-nCoV patients recovering at Udupi hospital-1Udupi: The three people, including a child, who were admitted to the Udupi district government hospital, Ajjarkadu on Friday, February 7 for showing symptoms similar to those of the novel coronavirus, are said to be recovering.

The District Health Officer, Dr Sudheer Chandra Sooda said that the patients are undergoing treatment at the District Hospital and are recovering.

While two are of the same family hailing from Mandarthi, another patient is from Mudarangadi near Shirva. It is learnt that the two from Mandarthi, a father and child had travelled to China and returned around 15 days ago. Although they had been to China, they did not visit Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak.

The mother brought the other two to the hospital after they caught cough and cold. The woman dis not show any symptoms.

In the case of the patient from Mudarangadi, he was brought to the hospital by ambulance after he allegedly raised a scare upon his return from Japan after he became severely unwell.

While officials say that it does not look like the three have a coronavirus infection, the patients cannot be released untill their test results come back from Bengaluru. Samples including nasal swabs and blood samples have been sent to tests for coronavirus infection. Their reports are likely to arrive at the hospital in three days. Till then, they will be kept in the hospital.

Now, the three are being treated for cough and cold and are responding to treatment according to the DHO.

As per the official clarification from KMC Hospital Manipal, some vested interests are spreading rumors that coronavirus infected patients have been found in the hospital. DHO Sooda has requested the public not to pay any heed to rumours about the disease.

In case there are any coronovirus cases reported in the district, an isolated ward of 10 beds has been set up at the District Hospital and the doctors and staff have been provided with masks and other safety equipment.

Meanwhile others who had recently visited China have also been screened at the hospital. They were cleared.
