Udupi: With more than 42 cases of swine flu reported in Udupi district and around seven deaths due to the calamity, the disease has become a threat, confirmed District Health Officer (DHO), Dr Ramachandra Bairy.
These cases of swine flu have been reported from various parts of the district for the past six months ending June this year.
In order to discuss the issue a meeting represented by private medical institutions and medical colleges was convened at the district administration complex at Manipal on Tuesday July 1.
Addressing the meeting, District Health Surveillance Officer – Dr Rohini said that Swine Flu is a matter of great concern and the hospitals are requested to keep required medicines for treatment of the patients.
Briefing on the statistics, Dr Rohini said that till June 2014 around 22 H1N1 cases and four deaths were reported from Udupi taluk, three cases with one death were reported from Karkala taluk, while one person died out of 15 cases in Kundapur taluk.
Discussions held thereafter at the meeting focused on the availability of ventilators in private and government hospitals. The authorities concerned were asked to take effective preventive measures in Manipal University and hostels coming under it.
