Udupi: Udupi District Handball Association affiliated to Karnataka Handball Association, Bangaluru will organize state level 17th Junior Handball championship for Boys and Girls in Udupi district from January 17 to 20 at Mahatma Gandhi Bayalu Ranga Mandira, Beedinagudde here.
Speaking to media persons at a press meet on Friday, January 11, Alevoor Hareesh Kini, President of Udupi district Handball Association said that in order to encourage sports enthusiasts and to promote all round development in the field of sports at different level, the state level tournament has been organized for both boys and girls below 19 years of age.
He said around 24 boys and 17 girls teams are taking part in the championship. Each team will consist of 18 members, including two officials. The estimated budget for this tournament is about Rs. 7 lakhs, which includes individual prizes and trophies, food and accommodation for all the participant of the tournament. Transportation from ground to accommodation and bus stand/Railway station will be available for the participants.
He said that the tournament will be inaugurated by Oscar Fernandes MP, Rajya Sabha and Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat.
Former minister Pramod Madhwaraj, Dinakar Babu President ZP, Udupi, Dr Anand Chi Kallolikara Commissioner of Udupi CMC, Nagendrappa H, Secretary, Karnataka State Handball Association, Bangaluru, Manohar Shetty MD, Sai Radha Group of Concerns, Udupi, Kishor Alva, Joint President, ADANI, UPCL, Udupi, Dr. Roshan Kumar Shetty, Assistant Director, Youth Empowerment and Sports, Udupi district, Suresh Shetty Gurme, Social worker, Janardhan Thonse, President, District Congress Committee, Mattaru Rathnakar Hegde, President, District BJP Committee, Yogish Shetty, President District JD(S), and Uday Kumar Shetty Muniyalu will be the chief guests.
The prize distribution and valedictory programme will be held on January 20 at 4 pm. Alevoor Hareesh Kini will preside.
Udupi district Handball Association Secretary Seetharama Gowda, Vice President Sudharshan Nayak, Treasurer Nirupama Shetty, Organizing Secretary Rohit R Devadiga and other were present in the press meet.
