Udupi: Paryaya Swamiji Shri Shri Vidyadheesha Teertha anointed Sri Vidya Rajeshwara Theertha Swamiji as his successor and the 31st seer of Palimar Math on Sunday, May 12, at 12.30 PM at the Sri Krishna Math.
The 20-year-old junior seer, formerly known as Shailesh Upadyaya, was anointed after he accepted the Sanyasa Deeksha.
Shailesh had his formal education till class 10 at a Sanskrit school before he joined the Yogadeepika Gurukula. He is currently studying the Tharka, Veda and Vyakarana.
Earlier, various rituals were performed by Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha Swamiji at the Sri Krishna Math as part of the Sannyash Ashrama. Later, the senior seer took his junior to the sactum sanctorum of the temple and made him perform the first puja to Lord Krishna.
Religious procedures connected with this programme were guided by scholar Subramanya Bhat Gundibail, Udupi, Paryaya Math Divan Vedayayas Tantri, Kamblakatte Surendra Upadyaya and others.
Pejarwar Math seers Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji and Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji, Krishnapur Math seer Sri Vidhyasagar Theertha Swamiji, Admar Math Seers Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji and Eshapriya Theertha Swamiji, Krishnapur Math Seer Sri Vidyasagar Theertha Swamiji, Kaniyoor Math seer Sri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji, Subramanya Math seer Sri Vidyaprasanna Theerta Swamiji, Sode Math seer Sri Vishwavallable Theertha Swamiji, Bheemanakatte Sri Raghubarendra Theertha Swamiji were present.
