Udupi: Shobha Karandlaje, incumbent MP and the BJP’s candidate from the Udupi-Chickmagaluru Lok Sabha constituency, filed her nomination papers on Friday, March 22, with the Chief Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner of the Udupi district.
As declared in the affidavit submitted to the DC, her assets (movable and immovable) are worth a total of Rs 10,48,72,668. She declared that her movable assets such as cash, bank balance, insurance policies, investment in shares, vehicles and gold ornaments are worth Rs 7,38,72,668. She had declared assets (movable and immovable) worth Rs 7,20,89,452 prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
In the affidavit submitted in 2014, she declared that she owned non-agricultural land worth Rs 2,10,00,000. Now, she has declared that they are worth only Rs 10,00,000.
Regarding her source of income, Shobha stated, in her affidavit, that her income is a combination of the salary she draws from the Lok Sabha as a Member of Parliament and returns on her investments.
She also stated that there are three criminal cases pending against her in the courts.
