Udupi: The Indian Meteorological Department and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre have predicted heavy rains over the next three days in the coastal areas of the state. A Red Alert has been announced in the coastal districts from October 23 to 25.
The enhanced low-pressure area over the Arabian sea with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 4.5 km above mean sea level persists. This is likely to concentrate into a depression during the next 24 hours.
Most places in coastal Karnataka will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall and isolated places in the coastal region will receive extremely heavy rainfalls.
The District Disaster Management Authority has issued instructions to take early action in this connection.
Fishermen, as well as the general public, have been advised to be careful and not get into the rivers or the sea.
Udupi Deputy Commissioner G. Jagadeesh, in an announcement, said that parents should be alert and prevent their children from going to the lowlands, lakeside and coastal areas.
