Police nab culprits within 24 hours of robbery

Udupi: The district police, on September 14, successfully arrested two persons in connection with a robbery in Olakadu, Udupi, within 24 hours of the incident.

The arrested have been identified as Atul Bagne, a resident of Sangli in Maharastra and Sandeep Chandrakanth.

According to the complaint filed with the Udupi town police, the miscreants stole Rs 22 lakhs in cash that was kept in grocery boxes in the kitchen.

The victim of the crime, Sunanda Manikya Patil, a resident of Harishchandra Road, Olakadu had gone to the Mukundakripa School at around 12.15 pm to give her children their lunch boxes. When she returned to the house, she found the lock of the door broken and upon closer inspection, came upon the empty grocery boxes in the kitchen.

In addition to the cash, the culprits also stole silver articles worth approximately Rs 30,000 from the house.

Atul worked with Sunanda’s husband Manikya, a goldsmith, and was sacked for his misbehaviour.

Under the leadership of SP Nisha James, ASP Kumarachandra, DySP T R Jaishankar, Udupi Circle Police Inspector Manjunath, PSI Byndoor Timmesh B N, Imaran, Sangamesh, Nagendra, Krishna, Ashok Rathod and other police officials were part of the arresting team. The culprits were arrested at the Byndoor Railway Station on September 13 evening and Rs 21,84,500 in cash and silver were recovered.

The court remanded the arrested accused to police custody for three days.
