Police nab 38-year-old man for alleged sexual assault of minor girl

Udupi: A 38-year-old man was arrested on September 30, for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl in Byndoor of the Udupi district.

The accused arrested has been identified as Deepu alias James, a resident of Bisinapare of the Jadkal village in the Byndoor taluk.

According to a press statement released by the SP’s office, Deepu, on May 12, mixed some drugs in the juice which he forced her to drink. Later, the accused took the girl to a lodge in Manipal and sexually assaulted her. The girl later registered a complaint with the Udupi Women’s Police Station.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against the accused under the provisions of the POCSO Act.

Reportedly, Deepu went absconding after he learnt that the victim had lodged a police complaint against him.

Udupi district SP Nisha James formed a special team led by DySP Hariram Shanker, to trace the accused. He has now been arrested by the police.
