Udupi: Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that opposing the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the district was an anti-democratic stance.

Speaking to the media in Udupi on Tuesday, January 7, he said that the Congress was expressing its anti-democratic stance. “Amit Shah is one of the leaders of our nation and he must come to our state. He is the Home Minister of the Union government. He will come and he has the right to come. Let Congress leader Ivan D’Souza fast. Fasting is good for health,” he said.

Bommai further said, “Flood-compensation for the victims is being distributed. The money comes from the NDRF under the Center. Former CM Siddaramaiah is making a political statement.”

“A large amount of relief has come from the central government. Siddaramaiah should recall that when Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister, there were severe floods and we had demanded Rs 14,000 crores as flood-victims compensation. But we received only Rs. 1,400 crores,” he added.
