Udupi: The Onam festival, celebrated by the people of Kerala, is special because it unites people of all castes, creeds and religions. This is something that we don’t see in other states. Onam has the power to unite the people at large, said Kota Srinivas Poojary, State Minister for Fisheries, Ports and Muzrai.
A celebration of the Onam festival was organized by the Kerala Cultural and Social Center, Udupi along with the Lions Club International at the Narayana Guru Hall, Bannenje near here.
Speaking to the gathering during his inaugural address, minister Poojary said that Keralites, compared to the people of other states, are very literate. Even the women are more educated.
On the occasion, Tulu comedian and actor Aravind Bolar, Nithyananda Olakad Dr. Joseph, Vishu Shetty were felicitated.
Meanwhile, cash prizes were distributed to the children of the centre’s members.
Kerala Cultural and Social Centre president P A Mohandas welcomed the gathering and delivered the keynote address. Bindu Tangappan compered the programme.
Lions Club International District 317 Governor Ln V. G. Shetty, Prof. Dr. M. N. Valiyathan, K V Kumar secretary of the Kerala Cultural and Social Centre, treasurer Prasanna Kumar and others were present.
