Udupi: Clarifying that the housing scheme proposed by the BJP government has no connection with the housing plan proposed by former MLA and minister Pramodh Madhwaraj, MLA Raghupathi Bhat said that the proposal of Madhwaraj was shelved at the very initial stage by the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Board.
Addressing a news conference on Tuesday, Bhat said that the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Board had rejected the proposal of Madhwaraj in August 2018, citing loopholes in the project report.
Bhat’s reaction came in response to a press meet held by Pramodh Madhwaraj, claiming that he was the mastermind behind the housing project at Herga village in Udupi that the BJP government is talking about.
Countering this claim, Bhat said that the BJP’s housing project is planned under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, while Madhwaraj had planned his project under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Board.
“Those are two different project,” said Bhat. Taking a jibe at Madhwaraj, he said that even before the project could be approved, Madhwaraj had handpicked beneficiaries only with the intention of getting votes.
“The beneficiaries that were handpicked by Madhwaraj are now asking for the houses and he has no answer,” said Bhat adding that under the BJP rule, the houses will be allocated to genuine beneficiaries.
