Udupi: Fisheries, Port and Inland Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary appealed to Chief Minister Yediyurappa to set up a development corporation dedicated to Brahmashree Narayana Guru in order to give a voice to the prosperous members of society.
Poojary was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the 165th Jayanthi programme of Brahmashree Narayana Guru organised by the Udupi District Council and the Udupi District Panchayat, along with the Kannada and Culture Department.
Addressing the gathering, Poojary said that the message of Narayana Guru, who claimed to be of one caste, one community and worshipped one God, was especially relevant in today's world. "The Guru wanted the whole world to live together as one family, co-existing equally and peacefully. The message of equality preached by Narayana Guru is an ideal for all of us to follow," he added.
Poojary further said, "Born in a time when ambivalence and temper were at their disposal, Narayana Guru sparked a revolution by becoming the voice against exploiters of society."
Asserting that all of mankind is equal, Poojary mentioned that he would serve as a minister in the path of Narayana Guru's principles and ideals.
Earlier, a "bhajan" session was conducted by Sapna and Nagaraja Shet while Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director Kumara Bekeri welcomed the gathering.
Poornima proposed the vote of thanks and the programme was compered by Dayananda Uggelbettu.
Udupi Taluk Panchayat President Nita Gururaj Poojary, G P delegation members Janardhana Tonse, Geetanjali Suvarna, and Shilpa Suvarna, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, Kapu Tehsildar Muhammad Isaac, Katpadi Viswanath President BN Shankar Poojary, President Shivanand and others were present at the event.
