Udupi: Karnataka reported 257 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths on Thursday, June 4, taking the state’s tally to 4,320 and death toll to 57.
The Udupi district once again reported the highest number of COVID-19 positive cases today (92), followed by Raichur (88). The Dakshina Kannada district reported four new cases on Thursday.
The first death was reported from the Gadag district where a 44-year-old man (Patient 4082) diagnosed with an influenza-like illness complained of fever, cough and UTI. He also had a known case of diabetes mellitus. As per the bulletin released by the state health department, the man was admitted to a designated hospital in Gadag but as his condition deteriorated, he was moved to a designated hospital in Hubballi-Dharwad on June 2. He died on the same day due to sepsis and bronchopneumonia and his results came back positive for COVID-19 today.
Patient 4093, an 83-year-old woman from the Davanagere district is the second death reported from the state on June 4. She was a secondary contact of Patient 2560 and had complained of chest pains. She was admitted to a designated hospital in the district on May 31 and died on the same day due to severe metabolic acidosis with renal failure. She tested positive for COVID-19 today.
Bengaluru Urban reported to COVID-19 deaths on Thursday. Patient 4220, a 65-year-old woman was diagnosed with a severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) and had complaints of fever and cough. She passed away on June 3 due to acute respiratory distress syndrome at a designated hospital. Patient 4317, a 60-year-old woman who was diagnosed with SARI, had complained of fever, cough, and vomiting. She had a known case of HTN and DM and was admitted to a designated hospital in the district on June 3. She died on the same day due to respiratory failure.
The break-up of the other cases are: Mandya (15), Hassan (15), Davanagere (13), Belagavi (12), Bengaluru Urban (9), Chikkaballapura (2), Gadag (2), Vijayapura (1), Mysuru (1), Ballari (1), Tumakuru (1), and Haveri (1).
A total of 106 people were discharged from hospitals today bringing the total of discharges to 1,610. There are a total of 2,651 active COVID-19 cases in the state as on June 4.
