Home Minister Bommai reveals development plans for coastal belt at R-Day event

Udupi: The coastal belt is one of the most significant areas for economic development in the state and development works will be taken up systematically, said Karnataka Home Minister and District in-charge Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

He was speaking at the Republic Day ceremony at the Ajjarakadu Stadium here on Sunday, January 26, after hoisting the national flag.

He said that, so far, the true potential of the coastal belt has not been utilised and now attempts will be made to tap the economic and tourism potential of the region.

“There is huge potential for beach tourism, medical tourism, and temple tourism. We are looking for development through the latest modern technology on fishing and materials, coastal areas development,” he added.

He said that Rs 29 crores have been released by the Panchayat Raj Department for damages caused by the flood in Udupi district, Rs 32 crores have been issued for other various works. BPL card has been distributed to 1.90 lakh families in the district and under the Kisan Sanman project, 1.39 lakh farmers have been given support prices.

The minister said that the government’s first priority was to ensure peace and equality. “The progress of the country is not going down well with many. Everyone should resolve to make the country terrorism-free and contribute towards building a strong nation,” he said.

On the occasion, government employees like Agriculture Department’s Joint Director of Agriculture Dr. Dakshinamoorthy, H. Kempegowda, Deputy Director of Land Records and Technical Assistant to District Collector B.K. Ganesh K., Deputy Director, Fisheries, G.P. James DeSilva, Assistant Planning Officer, Office of the District Collector Ramamohan Hebbar, ITDP Office of the Planning Coordinator, Office of the Planning Officer, Vishwanath, Kapu Hobali Revenue Department. Ravishankar, Cuddalore Panchayat Development Officer Mahesh K., Office of the Taluk Elders, Senior Health Assistant B.V. Sivarama Rao, Manjunatha Naik of Petri Primary Health Center were felicitated.

Thirteen farmers in the district were honoured under the Agricultural Awards Scheme.

The formal program was held by school and college students as part of the Republic Day ceremony.

Teams that performed well in the march-past were honoured as well.

District Panchayat President Dinakar Babu, MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Udupi Taluk Panchayat Chairperson Nita Gururaja Poojary, District Collector G. Jagadeesh, Zilla Panchayat CEO Preity Gehlot, SP Vishnuvardhana, Coast Guard SP Chetan, ASP Kumara Chandra, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, and Udupi CMC Commissioner Anand Kallolikar were present.
