Udupi: Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Udupi district, Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, has suspended the Headmaster of Kodavoor Government Model Higher Primary School, Kodavoor, with immediate effect, for violating the Election Commission of India’s model code of conduct.

Headmaster Sundar attended an election meeting held at Karkala on April 7, in which Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Janata Dal (S) candidate for Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha Constituency, Pramod Madhwaraj were present. Sunder also addressed the gathering during the event.

Reportedly, Sundar had approached concerned officials with a request to provide Dalits with Depressed Classes (DC) Manna land on contract basis. Sundar had also pleaded authorities to provide grants for self employment schemes.

Government servants are barred from taking part in any of the political campaigns, meetings, programmes and functions as it violates the model code of conduct.

DC Hephsiba Rani Korlapati said that Sundar has taken part in an election campaign meeting with political leaders, and has also delivered a speech on the occasion, which violates the model code of conduct. “Sundar has been suspended from his service under People’s Representatives Act, with immediate effect,” she added.
