Fatal bus accident in Karkala claims seven lives

Karkala: Seven passengers died in a fatal bus accident in Abbaskatte near the Mala Checkpost, on Saturday, February 15.

According to reports, a tourist bus from Mysuru was carrying as many as 35 passengers towards Mangaluru.

Sources say that the bus while manoeuvring one of the most dangerous turns in Abbaskatte, rammed into a boulder which was on the roadside. Due to the impact, seven passengers were thrown out of the bus and died instantly. The front portion of the bus was damaged beyond recognition in the accident.

The severely injured passengers were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.

The police and a team of firefighters rushed to the spot and the rescue operations are said to be ongoing.

Reports suggest that the death toll might rise depending on the nature of the accident.

Sources also say that the driver of the bus bearing Bengaluru registration plates had lost control, resulting in the major mishap.
