District Disaster Management Authority warns of rough weather in coastal K’taka

Udupi: A major cyclone has hit Lakshadweep in the Arabian Sea as forecasted by the Indian Meteorological Department and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Center.

The District Disaster Management Authority has issued the following instructions as heavy rainfall is likely to occur on November 1 in the coastal area of the state and will be accompanied by strong winds.

Fishermen and tourists have been advised to not get into the river or sea. District and taluk-level officers must be in the central position. Parents should ensure that children do not venture into lowlands, pools, rivers or the sea shorelines.

District Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesh has asked the people to call the toll free number 1077, phone number 0820 2574802/2574360 in case of emergencies.

According to a report by the IMD, the sea’s condition is very likely to be rough to very rough in the Comorin-Maldives area and along and off the Kerala-Karnataka coast.

Waves measuring heights of about 1 meter are very likely to inundate low lying areas of the Lakshadweep Islands.
