DC directs officials to submit report on Child Helpline within 10 days-1Udupi: Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati has directed the officials to submit a report regarding creating awareness about the measures that need to be taken to safeguard children from the violence and improving child helpline. The DC has asked the officials to submit the report within 10 days.

Speaking at the DC office on Monday, June 17 during a Child Helpline Advisory Committee meeting, Hephsiba Rani Korlapati said, "District wide awareness programmes should be conducted regarding Child Helpline. Along with raising the awareness levels among the parents, posters regarding the helpline should be posted at public places and public transports like autorikshaws and buses. ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) activists should also be informed about the child helpline."

"A village level children's meeting should be arranged once in every month to discuss the necessary actions following the calls that come to Child Helpline. Later, the same has to be discussed at a taluk level meeting. All the departments related to child protection should coordinate and work for the welfare of the children," she said.

"Health Department and other related departments should use the Child Helpline logo in all the programmes that they conduct. One child representative should be appointed in every village to create awareness on Child Helpline," she added.

Speaking at the meeting, Superintendent of Police Nisha James, said, "Children's statement will be given more importance in any case relating to their protection"

District Legal Services Authority Member Secretary Kaveri Lele, Department of Women and Child Development Department Deputy Director Grace Gonsalves, Child Development Planning Officer Veena, Chennai Child India Foundation Senior Programme Co-ordinator Chitra Anchan, Childline Director Ramachandra Upadhyaya, former president of Child Welfare Committee Narayan B K, Child Welfare Committee members among many others were present in the meeting.
