Udupi: There is no setback for the Congress party in the Supreme Court as it has said that it will review the audio. We had requested a separate hearing and the Court agreed. Therefore, it is not a setback for the Congress party, said Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and former chief minister Siddaramaiah.
He was speaking to reporters before the closing ceremony of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, held at the Udupi Town Hall, Ajjarkad on Wednesday, November 6.
Siddaramaiah admitted that, while it is true that the BJP and the JDS are in talks to save the government, he does not know what their terms and conditions are. "Both H D Deve Gowda and H D Kumaraswamy agreed that they meet each other," he said.
Regarding former chief minister Kumaraswamy’s tweet that Siddaramaiah wanted to topple the BJP-led state government, Siddaramaih said that he did not say anything like that and that HDK misunderstood him.
It can be recalled that HDK had, on Tuesday, tweeted, "Some people with selfishness and greed to become Chief Minister are eager to pull down the government. It doesn't matter to them even if it leads to wastage of public money. Don't forget that among those MLAs who quit the party and went, most of them are from your party (Congress). Douse the fire in your house before going to douse the fire in your neighbour's house."
Speaking about the issue, Siddaramaiah said, "If the Yediyurappa government is to survive, it should win at least eight seats in the by-election. Failure to do so will cause the government to fall."
"If the JDS is indeed a secular party then the BJP would not support it," he said.
Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Pramod Madhwaraj, MLC Ivan D’Souza, former MLAs Gopal Poojary and U R Sabhapathy, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor President of district Congress Committee and other leaders were present.
