Asare celebrates ten years of existence with enthusiasm

Manipal: Teachers, students, parents and well-wishers showed a lot of enthusiasm at the decennial celebrations of Asare, a home for special children with a school, rehabilitation centre, autism and learning disorder division. The celebrations were held at the Dr TMA Pai Auditorium in KMC here on Saturday, June 16.

The programme was inaugurated by Udupi MLA, Raghupathi Bhat and Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) Pro Chancellor, Dr H S Ballal presided over the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Raghupathi Bhat appreciated the contribution of the special school teachers. “I am happy that there are many exclusive schools in Udupi which accommodate and nurture children who need special care. The dedication of the teachers and their contribution towards society is noteworthy,” he said. He added that the Central Government recently introduced several schemes for the benefit of special children.

The celebrations were held in two parts, with a function in the morning followed by another in the afternoon. Shruti Pai, Director MEMG, Bengaluru was the chief guest for the afternoon programme and MAHE Vice Chancellor, Dr H Vinod Bhat presided over the function.

Jai Vittal, the brain behind Asare, summed up the decade of progress through a video made by the School of Communication.

About Asare

Asare, is a project supported by the MAHE as part of its social responsibility, and is run by the Archana Trust. It has 40 inmates and ten day scholars. It provides vocational training in basic computer operation, tailoring, making plates with paper and areca nut leaf sheaths and in craft, the inmates are taught to make crepe paper flowers, greeting cards, paper bags and envelops. One of the inmates, Archana is an international swimmer who recently won a bronze medal at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi.
