Tumakuru: In order to ensure train traffic on the Arsikere route, the South Western Railway (SWR) commissioned the second railway line under the double railway line project here on Monday, June 17, which stretches to 18 km between Tumakuru – Gubbi.
According to the SWR release, the total project estimated at Rs 578 Crore will be completely taken care of by the railway department.
The 96-km-stretch complete double railway line project from Arsikere-Tumakuru is expected to complete by 2020-21, with the railway department finishing the Arsikere-Karadi segment last November.
Meanwhile, the Rs 108 Crore project pertaining to the construction of 28 minor bridges, two under bridges and three major bridges has already been completed on the Tumakuru – Gubbi line.
The railway line encompasses three stations namely Heggere, Mallasandra and Gubbi. The train will be halting at Heggere.
However, the platform no. 1 of Mallasandra station has already been extended with basic facilities like drinking water and toilets.
