Tumakuru: For the first time in its history, the Siddaganga Mutt in Tumakuru halted the admission to its residential school due to the shortage of water.
Sources in the Math have said that they have received more than 8,000 applications this year and the authorities stopped the issuance of the application 15 days earlier when compared to last year. The notices pertaining to the admissions to Class 1 to Class 7 and for Class 9 to Class 10 having been closed for the year 2019-20 have been pasted on the walls of the Math.
“First time in the history of the Math, we have stopped the admission because of the paucity of water,” Math Administrator Vishwanathaiah is quoted in Deccan Herald.
The Math, which provides free food and education to over 9,000 students requires a huge quantity of water. Most of the water requirement is fulfilled by the borewells in the Mutt premises and sources say that out of the 20 bores in the Math premises, at least six have dried up completely, while the water in the rest of the bores is not sufficient.
