Tumakuru: State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J C Madhuswamy has said that the flood victims were not responding to the relief work done by the state government.

Speaking to the media he said, “The state government has initiated the relief work for the flood victims and carried out the rehabilitation process, but the flood victims themselves have not accepted it.”

“According to the government estimate, around 90000 houses are required to be constructed and the government is all set to do the same, but the government has received only 9000 applications so far,” he said.

Further explaining about the relief process, the minister said, “For the estate owners, who have lost their lands, which were on the hilly areas, a larger amount of relief fund is required. For this we are waiting for the funds from the Central government. But for the families who have lost their houses, we have released immediate relief and also arrangements for those who wish to stay in rented houses has been made. We are in the process of accepting new applications for houses.”

Meanwhile, he slammed the opposition parties for blowing things out of proportion.
