Tumakuru: Even as Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa made a request to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release additional funds so that the flood-ravaged pockets of the state could be resettled, the CM received a rather passive response from the PM. This has left the people of the state angry.
Modi was in Tumakuru on Thursday to take part in a Farmers’ rally. During the programme, BSY urged the Prime Minister to release additional Rs 50,000 cr towards irrigation projects and other works which need to be undertaken under flood relief.
“We have lost over three lakh houses in the floods. Bridges, roads and other infrastructure have been lost and the funds required to rebuild these are estimated at Rs 30,000 cr. We have requested for additional funds, but we have not got any response, ” said BSY in front of Modi.
Though the CM spoke at length about the situation of the state and the problems faced by the farmers here, Modi did not speak a word about the relief. Later, the CM also handed over a written request for additional funds to the PM.
It may be recalled that more than eight districts were hit by the floods this year. Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had visited the state and people had urged them to ensure that Modi too visits the state. However, the PM did not pay a visit.
Protests:
While farmers from various parts of the state were to protest against the anti-farmer policies of Modi, netizens floated hashtag ‘Go Back Modi’ against the PM’s two-day visit.
