New Delhi: Airtel and Vodafone have reacted to Jio’s announcement of charging calls made to its rivals 6 paise per minute, by reminding users that their unlimited calls will remain unlimited.
Reliance, however, hit back at their critics stating that the charge of 6 paise/minute is an Interconnect Usage Charge (IUC) payable by them to Airtel and Vodafone for calls connected from Jio users to their networks as per TRAI regulations.
Reliance says that this amount is collected by them to pay to Airtel and Vodafone. It is said to have paid Rs 13.5K crores to its rivals as IUC over that last three years. The TRAI had planned to drop the IUC regime by Jan 2020, but indications now are that the dropping of the IUC may be deferred for some time.
