Melbourne: Just as the Australia Open kick started, the world tennis was rocked by match fixing allegations and the authorities of the game failing to curb them.
BBC and BuzzFeed News reported that 16 players ranked in the top 50 had been repeatedly flagged to the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) over suspicions they had fixed matches adding that they had proofs backing their claims.
However, the tennis authorities denied the allegations.
The reports said the TIU either failed to act upon information about the suspicious activities of the players or take stringent action. The reports added that despite being aware of the corruption, the top players were allowed to continue competing.
