Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis won their second title in a row as they overpowered the Russian pair of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina 7-5, 6-1 in the final of the Miami Open.

saniaThe pair of Mirza and Hingis had earlier defeated Makarova and Vesnina in the final of the BNP Paribas Open two weeks ago.

Makarova and Vesnina started off on a positive note and had Mirza and Hingis on the backfoot with a 5-2 lead in the first set. But Mirza and Hingis scripted a remarkable turnaround as they won eight games in a row and then carried forward the momentum to clinch the title.

In an interview with MiamiOpen.com, Hingis said, “The most important thing is that we never stop believing we are a great team. They started off really well. We just had to get our rhythm and start hitting. In the beginning, we were almost thinking, ‘OK, they were going to hand it over to us.’ But they’re not, because they have nothing to lose from last week, and we have to prove it again,” she added.

“I’m upset a little bit because this match was much closer for us [than at Indian Wells],” Makarova told MiamiOpen.com. “We were playing really great tennis and leading with two breaks. And then they started to play a little more aggressive and we lost our game a little bit,” she added.
