Kolkata: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly was the highlight of Pro Kabaddi’s fifth day – the first in Kolkata, on Wednesday. The former cricketer was joined by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee as local musicians and bands welcomed the league to the city.
Ganguly, who has been involved with Indian Super League football as an owner, was his enthusiastic best ahead of the match between Bengal Warriors and Jaipur Pink Panthers. He sang the national anthem and was then seen acknowledging the large cheer from fans.
This is the second season of Pro Kabaddi league with Jaipur winning the inaugural edition last year. Recognised as a truly Indian sport, the league has propelled the kabaddi into spotlight with many celebrities including Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan being regular visitors. And while the Bachchans are co-owners of the Jaipur team. even other ‘fans’ like Salman Khan have turned up to cheer the players.
