New Delhi: Yuvraj Singh retired from professional cricket exactly a year ago after helping India win two World Cups.
If Yuvraj’s six sixes off England’s Stuart Broad is still remembered when we talk of India’s 2007 inaugural T20 World Cup triumph, his all-round show during India’s ODI World Cup win in 2011 hurtled the dashing left-hander into cricketing folklore forever.
The Player of the Tournament in India’s World Cup winning-campaign, Yuvraj called it a day last year, bringing an end to an illustrious career lasting more than two decades.
Yuvraj called time on his career after amassing 11,778 runs across all three formats and he also took 148 wickets. Known for his match-winning ability with the bat and also wicket-taking knack with the ball, Yuvraj was also a livewire on the field.
So on Wednesday, it did not come as a surprise that #MissYouYuvi was trending on popular social media platform Twitter as fans showered the 38-year old with affection.
At his peak, he was part of an Indian dressing room that included the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid and M.S. Dhoni among others.
Tendulkar on Wednesday shared his first impressions of seeing a young Yuvraj.
“It’s been a year since You(Vi) retired,” said Tendulkar in a tweet alongwith an image of him and Yuvraj.
“My first memory of you was during the Chennai camp & I couldn’t help but notice that you were very athletic & deceptively quick at point. I needn’t talk about your 6 hitting ability, it was evident you could clear any ground in the world,” said Tendulkar.
Yuvraj had a rather unfulfilled career in Test cricket with 40 matches and 1900 runs under his belt. He managed just three centuries but it was in ODI cricket that he established himself as among the best in the world.
