Incheon: M C Mary Kom packed a punch to clinch a gold medal in the women’s 51kg category at the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea on Wednesday.
In the first round, the things did not go down too well for Mary. Her Kazakhi opponent Zhaina showed solid defence and counter-attacked to win the first round of the final.
While Mary struggled in the second round, she hung in and clinched the round two to make scores equal 1-1.
In the third round, the five-time World Champion was in her elements and did not allow Zhaina to strike back. Mary Kom’s vast experience in the boxing arena came handy as she outperformed her opponent to bag gold.
