Budapest: British driver Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes won the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday, beating teammate Nico Rosberg of Germany to become the new leader of the Formula One World Championship.
Starting in second position, behind Rosberg in pole, Hamilton was able to overtake and win the race at the Hungaroring circuit in Budapest. The win is Hamilton’s fifth in Budapest, his previous record of four wins being shared with retired German driver Michael Schumacher.

With 25 more points, bringing him up to a total of 192, Hamilton leads the driver standings for the first time this season, and knocks Rosberg off the top spot. Sunday’s win puts Hamilton 6 points ahead of Rosberg, who finished second in the eleventh stage of the Championship.

Completing the podium in third was Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull). Sebastian Vettel of Germany (Ferrari) came in fourth.

Esteban Gutierrez accuses Lewis Hamilton of being disrespectful

Esteban Gutierrez has accused Lewis Hamilton of being “disrespectful” after receiving an abusive hand gesture from the Formula 1 world champion during the Hungarian Grand Prix.

While Hamilton was leading the Hungaroring race with Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg closing, the Briton was held up at one stage by Haas driver Gutierrez. As Hamilton finally passed Gutierrez at the top of the main straight he delivered what appeared to be a middle-finger salute to underline his unhappiness at being held up.

Informed of Hamilton’s action, Gutierrez said, “Not a very respectful move from him I have to say. I have spoken to him in the past. I think he is respectful, he is the world champion, but he shouldn’t do these kinds of things. He should respect all of the competitors. You never know, maybe in the future I will be fighting for a championship with him, so he has to respect that”.

Gutierrez later tweeted his disappointment, adding: “Being a world champion doesn’t give you the right to be disrespectful to your competitors, my friend.”
