New Delhi : Indias chief hockey coach Michael Nobbs has been sacked after a string of poor performance in the World Hockey League. Many felt that Michael Nobbs was unable to provide results and that the national mens team did not have clear strategies in place.

The former Australian Olympian has been asked to leave after Indias poor performance in The Netherlands where the India failed to make it to the top-three. Calls for Nobbs ouster had since been gathering steam with former India player Pargat Singh saying that it was high time that the 59-year-old was given marching orders.

Nobbs was appointed as head coach of the national mens team in June of 2011 and his contract was till the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Many however felt that he had been unsuccessful in delivering results with even former coach Joaquim Carvalho saying that good strategies were missing. “He has shown no improvement in the Indian team. A good coach needs to come up with good strategies against specific opponents, should have good management and communication skills as well as ability to read the game.”Carvalho was quoted as saying earlier this month.
