Kingston: India faced utter defeat for shot of 161 runs in T3 Series against Sri Lanka that amassed huge runs with the help of Upul Tarang who made top century of his life by securing 174 runs.
Sri Lankan openers Taranga made 176 along with Mahela Jayavardane who made 107 runs for first wicket down at a total of 348. India chasing a total of 348 got all out for 187 runs in 44.5 overs.
Ravindra Jadeja scored 49 runs, Suresh Raina scored 33 runs, Shikar Dhavan scored 24 runs and Dinesh Karthik scored 22 runs. India faced set backs in chasing huge target due to slow scoring initially. India lost first wicket for 28 runs in 10 overs. Rohit Sharma got out first. Dhawan and acting captain Virat Kohli who got out as the average runs to win were steadily increasing. After the two overs, India lost 4 wickets for 70 runs bowled by Malinga. Indias chances to win the series collapsed followed by wickets one after the other. It is an utter defeat indeed.
Taranga scored 19 boundaries and 3 sixes in 159 balls. Jayavardane scored 9 boundaries and 2 sixes in 112 balls. At last, Mathews scored 49 runs in 29 balls.
