Ranchi:Chennai Super Kings defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Champions League T20 Group B match at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium here on Thursday .Though Skipper Shikhar Dhawan (48, ) and fellow opener Parthiv Patel gave the Sunrisers a rousing start while allrounder Darren Sammy did his best to take his side over the line thier chase ended at a valiant 191 for 7 at the end of 20 overs.
CSK skipper M.S. Dhonis late-innings blitz of 63 off just 19 deliveries, a knock that included five massive sixes off a Thisara Perera over, proved to be decisive as the Super Kings made 202 for 5 after being asked to bat first.
Due credit must be give to Suresh Raina, whose 84 off 57 balls formed the crux of the CSK innings before Dhoni, arriving only in the 15th over, slammed eight sixes to power his side to what proved to be a winning total.
After Dhawan won the toss and put CSK in to bat, a fired-up Dale Steyn removed Murali Vijay off just the second ball.
No.3 Raina, however, got off to a flier, striking two delightful boundaries off successive in the same over and built a nice partnership with Michael Hussey. The Sunrisers saw the back of Hussey in the seventh over as wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel caught the CSK opener off J.P. Duminy, ending the 44-run partnership.
