Dhaka: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has banned former Bangladeshi test pacer Shahadat Hossain for five years, in addition to two years of suspension, for allegedly physically assaulting teammate Sunny Arafat during a National Cricket League match.

The board has also decided to penalize the pacer with a fine of 3 lakh Takhas.

According to reports, Arafat called Shahadat incompetent when it comes to shining the stich ball during the league match. Triggered by this statement, Shahadat tried to assault the latter, soon after which the teammates rushed towards the duo and tried to calm them down.

The BCB’s technical committee reviewed the incident and decided to ban the pacer for five years.

As a clarification of the incident, Shahadat, speaking to Cricbuzz, said that although he lost his cool with Arafat, the latter too had misbehaved by refusing to shine the ball and speaking to him in a degrading tone.

It can be noted that the 33-year-old pacer has played 38 tests, 51 ODIs and six T20s for Bangladesh.

He played his last match for his country in the year 2015.
