IPL has dubious reputation for money, controversy and sensational cricket, while IPL – 6 series will be inaugurated on Tuesday April 2.  It begins with match between Dare Devils – New Delhi and Night Riders – Kolkatta on Wednesday April 3.

IPL is popular for laundering money, glamour and talent of cricketers.  The scams surfaced no sooner the series completed on each season.  The controversies are deep rooted from the grounds, dressing room and party celebrations.

One cannot deny that the controversies superseded than cricketing and cricketers.  The controversy arisen on the first IPL.  Harbajan Singh had got into controversy by slapping on the cheek of Punjab Kings Eleven player S Srishant on the first IPL.  The dress code of cheer leaders during IPL was the eyesore of traditionalists.

Although the major controversy had not arisen during IPL – 2 in 2010, the issues such as match fixing and money laundering surfaced in media.  Lalit Mody was sacked form the post of IPL commission related to money laundering.  The match fixing controversy is still not been capped.

A union minister had to resign on allegations that he had share in the newly formed Kochi Tusker team during 2011.  Kochi Tusker team was cancelled from taking part in IPL because it failed to furnish the information on its owners.

IPL in 2012 was ridden with major controversies.  At the backdrop of Kolkatta Night Riders team owner Shahruk Khan misbehaved with security men during IPL match; Mumbai Cricket Association banned Shahruk Khan from entering Wankhede Stadium for 5 years.  BCCI has been trying to withdraw the ban in 2013.  Meanwhile, one has to wait and see whether Mumbai Cricket Association takes early action in this regard.

Bangalore Royal Challengers player Luke Pomers was arrested allegedly raping a woman in a posh hotel in USA.  The issue was amicably resolved with a few days, as the woman involved changed her statement.  One knows for sure that Sri Lankan players were barred to play in the beginning of IPL – 6 at Chennai.

IPL has truly emerged a game of rich.  A talented cricketer from any corner of the country can become multi-millionaire by playing in IPL.  It all depends on his cricketing talent.  It’s normal that the player is likely to get elevated ego, when the popularity and richness goes into his head.  Rahul Sharma was involved in rave party in 2012.  He has been allegedly involved in drugs.  Although IPL brings popularity to cricketers, it’s essential that the players had to learn to live with success unperturbed.
