Shivamogga: “All departments should work hand-in-hand to arrange preventive measures against coronavirus (covid-19),” said Zilla Panchayat CEO M L Vaishali.

Addressing a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday, March 11, she said, “A laboratory has been opened at the Shivamogga Medical College for testing for covid-19. Professionalism in tackling the situation must be incorporated instead of creating confusion and chaos. Efforts must be made to curb the spread of false information and all medical officials, paramedical staff and private doctors should be trained in handling the situation.”

“It is observed that some private schools are forcing students to wear face masks. If a kid is suffering from viral fever, there is no need to send them to school. Instead, provide proper treatment and take rest at home. There is no necessity for children to wear face masks,” she added.

Explaining the precautionary measures being taken up by the district administration director of Shivamogga Medical College, Dr Lepakshi said, “A rapid action team comprising of experts from the medical field has been formed at the McGANN Hospital. They will be available for 24 hours.  The doctors and nursing staff of the hospital have been given proper training on how to handle the patients. We have appealed to the public to inform the concerned departments about the entry of foreign visitors. The travel agency and hotel owners should provide accurate details about foreigners. We have taken the decision to keep foreign visitors under observation for two weeks, in order to be on the safer side.”

“Hoteliers must make sure that hygiene is maintained in rooms, premises and food. The food department officials have been directed to visit the hotels and check the food being served. Students should be made aware of keeping their hands clean every now and then,” she added.

Meanwhile, ZP CEO Vaishali released the covid-19 awareness posters.

District Health Officer (DHO) Rajesh Suragihallu, Dr Kiran Kumar, Dr Nagaraj, Dr Shankarappa and others were present.
